His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God rest his soul, inaugurated the Al-Ajari Observatory on April 15, 1986. It is the first advanced astronomical observatory in the Arabian Gulf region. It serves multiple purposes, including promoting astronomy and astronomical culture in Kuwait. It also organizes training courses for club members and Ministry of Education school students, where students receive theoretical and practical lectures on astronomical topics and practice astronomical observation and photography.
