- In 2016, an endangered hawksbill sea turtle was released on Qaruh Island after being rescued and freed from the basins of the Shuaiba Power Plant. It underwent treatment and rehabilitation, ensuring its full recovery. - In August 2018, a rare and endangered hawksbill turtle, known as the Hawksbill, was rescued after being trapped in the seawater intake of the Al-Zour South Power and Water Distillation Plant. It was released on Qaruh Island after a treatment and rehabilitation period lasting approximately seven months. - In December 2022, the Marine Environment Sciences Department was able to retrieve and rescue two turtles, one a Hawksbill, a threatened sea turtle, and the other a Green Turtle, a species found in Kuwait's marine environment. The two turtles had strayed into the watershed of the Shuaiba Power and Water Distillation Plant, and were unable to escape and return to the sea.
